Impact

Since the birth of this idea I’ve been aware of the impact of what it is I’m trying to achieve. As previously mentioned social media is something that is constantly changing and evolving, the on going need to fit in and have a ‘perfect’ image will be around for years to come – but with ‘Femme’ joining the female body positivity movement it will make that journey to acceptance slightly easier. With the coming together of women from all around it’s a topic and movement that has been around for centuries with feminism and the Suffragettes but it’s only since 2015 that is really exploded on all the social platforms.

A recent study from BYU Idaho statistics shown that 53 per cent of 13-year-old girls are unhappy with their bodies, but that number increases to 78 per cent by the age of 17. In only 4 years a young girls mind is warped enough to be unhappy with how they are because on average teenagers are spending 10 hours and 45 minutes consuming media per day.

I have already made contact with RAW Beauty Talks who are happy to spread the word about project ‘Femme’ once it is complete, RAW Beauty Talks has 2.6k followers on Twitter, 30k followers on Instagram, 7.1k Likes on Facebook and a successful website/blog. With their support and distribution project ‘Femme’ will reach all kinds of audiences.

I have looked into interactive website awards such as Webby Awards which pick the best use of interactive websites from each year. This would be a fantastic platform to submit ‘Femme’ with all the publicity it gets and hits from users on the Internet.

The topic I am dealing with is a sensitive one, so I believe with the right approach and being a woman myself who has experienced body shaming I can sympathise with the women of today to express themselves how they see fit in my online web documentary.  The core audience is women who have felt the pang of shame and belittlement from social media abusers but also for the people who are fighting for change and equality and to make social media a place not of perfect lives but diversity that is embraced and welcomed.

I will be posting frequent updates on all my social media accounts and hoping to work with a fashion label ‘Pilot Fashion’ to display the trailers and links to the website.
